What is it like to be a man in a patriarchal world
Is it just privileges or are there some problems that need to be unfurled
Patriarchy affects men too
This system holds a problematic view
The burden of providing they HAVE to bear
They don’t have a choice which is unfair
They are conditioned from an early age
That men are violent, filled with rage
There are a lot of things they grow up hearing
All of the burden alone endearing
They say “Be a man”
Always have a future plan
They say “Men don’t cry”
Setting the standards unacceptably high
They say “Men will be men”
What if they want to change, what then?
They say “Go to the gym”
Have a body that’s slim and trim
They say “A man always has to be the one who protects”
Doesn’t matter if in the process his life too gets wrecked
They say “You’re the man, so you should pay the bills”
But let me tell you, nowadays girls and women are capable enough with unlimited skills
They say “Men don’t cook”
Cooking is a life skill and not someone’s “duty” if you’re mistook
Aren’t you tired of following the norms of these boxes
Why not decide today to let go of these toxins
Everybody has views on what “masculinity” should be
But it’s for you to decide how you define it for yourself, your choice is free
So instead of focusing on society’s view of a “gentleman”
Let’s focus on being a good human, isn’t it high time we began
